Some possible reasons and solutions:
- If you have a Mac running macOS 14 (Sonoma) and Final Draft 12 or 11, go to Help > Check for Updates. If you're prompted to update, follow the prompts and the Sonoma-compatible version will be installed. This is a free update.
- If a script was edited on the right-hand monitor of two-monitor Mac setup and the file was saved that way, then opened on a computer with only one monitor, Final Draft will attempt to open it on a right-hand monitor that doesn't exist. Go to Window > Zoom to bring the script back to the main (left-hand) monitor).
- Has the background or text color been changed? Go to Document > Page Layout > Colors. If the background color and the text color are the same, you won't be able to see the text. Change the colors (default is white background and black text).
- Check the scaling (zoom) under the View menu. If the scaling is set very high (such as 250%) you might be looking at a closeup of the side of a page. Reduce the zoom to 100%.
