This error message is the result of a failed connection between your computer and the activation server. There are several possible causes and they are external to Final Draft.
- If you have Windows, create a new user account on the computer. Log in to this new account and try activating; once Final Draft is activated for this account it will be activated for all accounts on this computer.
- If you have Mac, restart your computer and try to activate. If this doesn't work, go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > General, select Allow Apps Downloaded from Anywhere (you may need to enter your computer's admin password), and try to activate.
- You may get this message if you are trying to activate via a public wifi network (i.e. while you're in a coffee shop) or via a company network with a high level of security. These network environments may not allow an activity like activation. Try to activate from a home internet connection.
- If you are using your operating system's firewall, check its documentation for help on turning it off temporarily. If you are running an anti-virus, an anti-malware or other security program, turn it off or temporarily disable it and try activating Final Draft.
