To help expedite the writing process, Final Draft Writer provides an auto-complete function called SmartType. Just like in our desktop version, SmartType maintains lists of all the character names, character extensions, scene intros, locations, times and transitions in your script.
When you add a new entry, it will automatically be added to your SmartType list. Then, if you are in one of the following Elements:
Character
Scene Heading
Transition
You can begin typing, and your previous entries will appear as options in a pop-up SmartType list:
You can then use the arrow keys on your keyboard to choose the entry you’re looking for. Then press TAB to select that entry and it will be entered into your script. Alternatively, you can use your mouse to click the entry you’re looking for.
If none of the entries are appropriate, just continue typing as normal and the SmartType list will be dismissed.
To edit your SmartType lists, you can click the Final Draft icon in the top lefthand corner of your screen. Choose “Document” and then “SmartType.”
