For those users who are new to the world of Final Draft and screenwriting, we have created a template called Screenplay for Beginners. It contains all of the same formatting as our Screenplay template, but also includes guidance on using Elements and provides examples for what the formatting looks like in action.
You can access this template by opening Final Draft, clicking File > New from Template. "Screenplay for Beginners" is under the “Script” section of the templates list. Double-click the template and it will open:
This template is formatted like a traditional script, but also shows instructions on how to select Elements and how to use them. You can then test them out for yourself, following the guidelines at the top of the page to select your Element.
Once you’ve familiarized yourself with the basics of formatting a screenplay, you can delete the text. You will be left with an empty document, ready for you to pick an Element and get writing!
