Header labels are used to place customized variable text, such as act / scene numbers, at the top of each page.
1. Go to Document > Header and Footer. This brings up the Header editor;
2. At the far left of the ruler bar, click the icon until it displays a left-aligned tab stop (it may already be set this way);
3. Click on the ruler bar in the exact place where you want the act / scene information to be displayed. The left-aligned tab stop will be inserted here;
4. Click the Label field above the ruler bar and the field should now be anchored to the tab stop you inserted;
5. Click OK to exit the Header editor;
You will now insert the Act and Scene information throughout the script:
6. Place the blinking cursor at the very top of Page 1;
7. Go to Insert > Label and type in "Act 1 Scene 1" (without quotes). Click OK. At this point "Act 1 Scene 1" is on every page of the script;
8. If Scene 2 starts on Page 5, place the blinking cursor at the very top of Page 5;
9. Go to Insert > Label and type in "Act 1 Scene 2" (without quotes). Click OK;
The new label, Act 1 Scene 2, begins on this page and ends the previous Scene 1 label. Now the Act 1 Scene 2 label extends to the end of the script;
10. Place the blinking cursor at the very top of the next page on which a new scene or act and scene begins, go to Insert > Label and type in the appropriate act and scene information;
11. Repeat this process until all pages are labeled correctly with act and scene information.
