Final Draft will import these file formats:
- PDF -- .pdf (Final Draft 13 / 12 only)
- Plain text files -- .txt
- Rich text files -- .rtf
- File converter files from Final Draft AV and old versions of Final Draft -- .fcf
A script written in another screenwriting program or a regular word processing program can be exported as a PDF (FD13 / 12 only) or a plain or rich text file (for FD11 and older), then imported into Final Draft. Final Draft will reformat the file as a feature screenplay.
Open the script in the program in which it was written and save as or export it to your Desktop (or some other convenient place) as a PDF (FD13 / 12 only), TXT or RTF file (for FD11 and older). Then:
- Open Final Draft;
- Go to File > Open;
- Navigate to where the file was saved;
- (Windows only) -- change Files of Type to All;
- Double-click the file to open it;
- When prompted, import it as a Script (or Screenplay). For more information on how to import files, see Importing a script from another program such as Word
