To host a session:
- Go to Tools > Collaboration > Host (Mac) or Home > Connect > Host (Windows);
- Enter your name or a name you would like to use for the session;
- Choose a script to share:
- If a script is currently open it will automatically be selected as the script to share OR
- Click the dropdown menu to display an Open dialogue box from which to choose a script OR
- Select a new blank document from a template OR
- Select one of your recently-used scripts;
- After the script is chosen, click OK;
- The Collaboration window is displayed;
- Send the Session ID to whoever else will be participating.
When the other participant(s) attempts to join the session, you as the Host can either Approve or Deny their entry. If you approve their entry, the script will automatically be shared. As participants enter the room their presence will be indicated in the upper-left panel in the Collaboration window.
You will now be able to type into this document and the other participants(s) will see in real time whatever you type.
To join a session:
- Go to Tools > Collaboration > Join (Mac) or Home > Connect > Join (Windows);
- The Join Collaboration window is displayed;
- Enter your name or a name you would like to use for the session;
- Type or paste in the Session ID (received from the Host of the session);
- Click OK;
- If your entry into the room is approved by the host, the shared script will open on your screen and you will now be able to see in real time whatever is typed by the person who currently has control of the script.
Please note that all collaboration users must be on the same version of FD to collaborate. FD13 can only collaborate with FD13, FD12 only with FD12 and so on.
Final Draft 13 and 12 offer simultaneous editing. Final Draft 11 / 10 do not; in these older versions, the only person who can type and edit is the person who has control of the script at that time.
