On launch, Final Draft Go (FD GO) will open to a screen offering several locations where scripts may be stored. On this screen you can start a new script (Create Document) or open the Final Draft folder to select scripts you've already written and saved on this device. (If you have the Final Draft Mobile app on this device as well, you may see its folder here also, and in it you will find scripts written with that app.) If you have scripts saved elsewhere on the iPad, touch the Browse icon at the bottom to navigate to that location.
NOTE that FD Go uses iOS's Files app; for instructions, please see this article from Apple: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206481
If you choose Create Document, this menu will be displayed:
Choose the type of script you want to write and you'll be prompted to name it:
Once the script's been named, a new, blank template will open, ready for you to write. By default, it will be saved in the FD Go folder in the On My iPad folder. You can, if you want, use the Files app to relocate it later.
Touch the blank script anywhere to bring up your onscreen keyboard -- you're now ready to write.
Notice that the first line of a blank screenplay defaults to a Scene Heading paragraph. Type the letter I (for Interior) or E (for Exterior) and the Scene Heading menu with the "I" intros or the EXT. intro listed. Choose the intro you want.
In a new script, type the location and then touch the time of day to complete the scene heading.
In a script that already has locations in SmartType, choose the one you want to insert it and then touch the time of day to complete the scene heading.
Touch the Return key to move the cursor to a blank Action paragraph. Begin typing (note that the first letter of the sentence will be capitalized automatically). In this example, the "he" in "Some action he" brings up the iOS predictive typing menu, so touch "here" below to complete the word:
When you're finished with a paragraph, touch Return to move the cursor to a new blank line below. The highlighted icon will indicate which type of paragraph it is; if it needs to be changed, touch the correct icon. The SmartType menu will come up when you start a new Scene Heading or insert a Character or Transition. The menus will display all the locations and character names you've typed so you can select the one you want from the menu rather than typing it in over and over again.
Saving is done automatically by the operating system every 15 seconds or so. You can force a save on the iPad by touching the left-pointing arrow at the upper left...
