Where is the backup folder? (Mac)

Whenever you save or the auto-save saves your script, Final Draft makes an additional date- and time-stamped copy and places it in another folder for safe-keeping. You can set the location of this folder to be on any drive or partition you want and also set the number of backups stored in the folder before the older backups are purged. The files will be named as

yearmonthdaymilitarytimefilename.fdx

so if you saved your script, Casablanca, on December 25th, 2020 at 8AM, the backup file will have this name:

202012250800Casablanca.fdx

To access the Final Draft Backup folder (RETAIL VERSION):

Final Draft 12 / 11 / 10 / 9:

Go to the Final Draft menu at the upper left of your screen and choose Preferences (macOS 12 and earlier) or Settings (macOS 13 and later)  Autosave/Backup tab. Click Open Backup Folder to display your backup files.

To access the backup folder in a Finder window:

1. Click on the Mac Desktop to bring up the standard Mac Finder menu across the top of the screen;
2. Hold down the Option key and choose Go Library;
3. Open Application Support / Final Draft / Final Draft 11/10/9 / Backup.

Final Draft 8:

Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) / 10.9 (Mavericks) / 10.8 (Mountain Lion) / 10.7 (Lion):

1. Click on the Mac Desktop to bring up the standard Mac Finder menu across the top of the screen.
2. Hold down the Option key and choose Go Library;
3. Open Application Support / Final Draft / Final Draft 8 / Backup
4. Your script backups will be displayed.

To access the Final Draft Backup folder (MAC APP STORE VERSION):

1. Click on the Mac Desktop to bring up the standard Mac Finder menu across the top of the screen.
2. Hold down the Option key and choose Go Library;
3. Open Containers com.finaldraft.finaldraftappstore.v11/10/9/8 Data Library Application Support Final Draft Final Draft 11/10/9/8 Backup
4. Your script backups will be displayed.

ALTERNATE ROUTE (RETAIL VERSION): Finder window Go menu Go to Folder ~/Library Application Support / Final Draft / Final Draft 11/10/9/8 / Backup.

OLDER MAC OPERATING SYSTEMS -- Final Draft 8 / 7 ONLY

Mac OS X 10.6 / 5 / 4: Go to Macintosh HD / Users / username / Library / Application Support / Final Draft / Final Draft 8/7 / Backup
