Do you manage Final Draft 13 for a school, lab, or shared workspace? Instead of making every writer log in with their own account, you can set up Device Authorization — it lets anyone use Final Draft on a shared computer without logging in every time.
Here’s how to do it — no tech degree needed!
🔧 Step-by-Step: Set It Up for Your Organization
🛠️ 1. Get Ready
Go to your admin dashboard here:
There, you’ll make a group of computers called a Device Client Group. Think of it like a “classroom group” or “writer’s room group.”
To create one:
- Click Device Client Groups on the left
- Click Create
- In the new popup that appears:
- Give it a name (like “Computer Lab 1”)
- (Optional) Add a note about it so you can help keep track or note details
- Choose the entitlement you have (you’ll likely only see one)
- Click Create
➡️ Tip: If you have multiple rooms, make a different group for each room.
✉️ 2. Send an Invite to Each Computer
To connect each computer to Final Draft:
- Click Device Clients in the menu
- Click Invite, you'll see the below popup:
- Fill in:
- Your name & email (you = the admin)
- Computer name (like “Classroom Mac 1”)
- Pick the right group (like “Computer Lab 1”)
- Click Invite — an email will be sent.
➡️ Important: Send one invite per computer. Each invite can only be used once!
✅ 3. Activate Final Draft on the Computer
On each computer:
- Install Final Draft 13 (if not installed yet):
👉 www.finaldraft.com/download - Open the invite email on that computer
- Click “Click Here to Continue”
- A web page opens – click “Connect Device”
- Done! Final Draft is now ready to use on that machine – no sign-in needed!
🔁 Managing Groups & Devices
👥 Device Groups (like rooms or labs)
- To add a group: Click Create and follow the steps above
-
To delete a group: Click the ⋮ icon next to the group and hit Remove
⚠️ Warning: This will disable Final Draft for all computers in that group - To see what computers are in a group: Click the group name and view “Clients”
💻 Individual Computers
- To see all connected computers: Go to Device Clients
- To remove a computer: Click the ⋮ next to its name, then click Remove
- To move it to a different group: Click the dropdown → Client Groups → check/uncheck groups → Apply
❌ Removing Final Draft Access from a Computer
You can do this remotely (recommended), or directly on the computer:
💻 Local Removal Steps:
Delete the app’s authorization folder:
-
Mac:
/Users/Shared/.com.finaldraft.v13.data/
-
Windows:
C:\ProgramData\Final Draft\13.0\Data\
Then:
- Remove the device from its group in your admin dashboard
- Or delete the whole group to remove access for all
