To watch a how-to video, click HERE. NOTE that this video shows Final Draft 9, but the process and the commands are the same in Final Draft 10.
- Go to File > Export and give the file a different name, just to be on the safe side;
- If you want any text to appear in the template, leave it. If you want your new template to be blank, delete all the text from it (Command + A, then the Delete key);
- If you don't want the script's SmartType lists to be included in the blank template, go to Document SmartType and click Rebuild for the Character and Location lists. This will quickly clear them;
- Go to File Export;
- Name your template;
- Change the Format dropdown menu to Final Draft Template (.fdxt);
- Save the template to your Desktop and quit Final Draft (Command + Q);
- Go to Finder > Applications;
- Hold down the Control key and click on the Final Draft 10 / 9 application icon;
- Click Show > Package Contents;
- Go to Contents > Resources > Data > Templates;
- Drag the template into the appropriate folder (Scripts or TV Templates);
- Restart Final Draft.
Once it's saved as a Template document in this folder, each time you go to File New from Template / Scripts, you'll see the template. Open the template and you'll be in a new document, pre-set to your specs.
NOTE: Activation service for Final Draft 9 has been discontinued and this version of Final Draft is no longer activatable (or re-activatable) to run in full mode on any computer. The program will continue to work but only on a computer that is already activated and only if nothing is done to the computer that will deactivate it (such as an OS upgrade or a replacement hard drive).
Technical support (phone, chat and email) for Final Draft 9 and older is no longer available.
