To save a script as a template so you don't have to reconfigure a new blank script every time:
- Go to File > Save As and give the file a different name, just to be on the safe side;
- If you want any text to appear in the template, leave it. If you want your new template to be blank, delete all the text from it (Control + A, then the Delete key);
- If you don't want the script's SmartType lists to be included in the blank template, go to Document > SmartType and click Rebuild for the Character and Location lists. This will quickly clear them;
- Go to File Export;
- Name your template;
- Change the Save as Type dropdown menu to Final Draft Template (.fdxt);
- Navigate that window to save this file to Computer Local Disk C Program Files or Program Files (x86) if you have that option Final Draft 10 / 9 Templates Scripts (or TV Templates if it is a TV Show);
- Click Save.
Once it's saved as a Template document in this folder, each time you go to File New from Template / Scripts, you'll see the template. Open the template and you'll be in a new document, pre-set to your specs.
NOTE: Activation service for Final Draft 9 has been discontinued and this version of Final Draft is no longer activatable (or re-activatable) to run in full mode on any computer. The program will continue to work but only on a computer that is already activated and only if nothing is done to the computer that will deactivate it (such as an OS upgrade or a replacement hard drive).
Technical support (phone, chat and email) for Final Draft 9 and older is no longer available.
