I get an error in Final Draft 7 when I try to save as a PDF on Windows 10 / 8 / 7.

Final Draft 7 cannot export as PDF in Windows 10 / 8 / 7. Users of FD7 will want to consider the upgrade to Final Draft 10, which was designed for these systems and has no problems exporting PDFs. Information on the ugprade is HERE.

These steps might work:

  1. Go to Start > Computer;
  2. Click on Organize > Layout > Menu Bar OR Computer > Organize tab > Folder and Search Options > View tab and choose Show Hidden Files and Folders;
  3. Go to Tools > Folder Options > View > and under Hidden files and folders, select Show Hidden Files and Folders. Hit Apply and then OK;
  4. Go back to Start > Computer > Local Disk (C: > Program Data > Final Draft > PDF Drivers;
  5. Double-click on Install;
  6. The installation will run and will likely have errors, but it should be successful;
  7. Go to Start > Control Panel > Classic View (in the top left corner) > Printers;
  8. There should be an icon called Amyuni Document Converter; right-click it and left-click Rename;
  9. Change the name to Final Draft PDF Converter 2. (Make sure to type it exactly this way);
  10. Close the Printers and Faxes and open Final Draft 7;
  11. Open a script or type some text into a blank script;
  12. Click File > Save As PDF, name the script Test and select your desktop as the save-to location;
  13. Click Save and the PDF should save to your desktop.

If this works, remember to go back to Start > Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View Tab, check Do Not Show Hidden Files and Folders and then click OK.

NOTE: Live support for Final Draft 7 has been discontinued. You will still be able to install, activate and use FD7 on appropriate computers but email, chat and telephone support is no longer available. Live activation assistance will be available via phone (818-789-6281) and email and chat (links on the left side of this page) until June 14, 2017.
