Question
Adding New Script Templates

Answer

Windows:

After you have downloaded the compressed file, double-click it to uncompress it. You should see the template icons.

Open these folders:

  1. This PC (Windows 10 / 8); Computer (Windows 7 / Vista); My Computer (Windows XP);
  2. Local Disk C;
  3. Program Files [or Program Files (x86)];
  4. Final Draft 10 / 9 / 8;
  5. Templates (FD10 / 9) or Stationery (FD8);
  6. Scripts.

Move the new templates into the Scripts folder and close all the windows (do not move the folder containing the templates into the Scripts folder, just the templates themselves).  When you open Final Draft and go to

  • File > New from Template > Scripts (FD10 / 9)
  • File > New from Stationery > Scripts (FD8)

you will see the new templates on the menu.

Macintosh:

After you have downloaded the compressed file, double-click it to uncompress it. You should see the template icons.

If you have FD10 / FD9.0.5 or later:

  1. In a Finder window, go to the Go menu > Applications and right-click or Control + click on the Final Draft 10 / 9 application icon;
  2. Choose Show Package Contents;
  3. Go to Contents > Resources > Data > Templates;
  4. Drag the templates into the Scripts folder (do not move the folder containing the templates into the Scripts folder, just the templates themselves).

If you have FD9.0.4 or earlier / FD8.0.3.1:

  1. FD9: In a Finder window, go to the Go menu > Applications and right-click or Control + click on the Final Draft 9 application icon;
  1. FD8: In a Finder window, go to the Go menu > Applications > Final Draft 8 folder and right-click or Control + click on the Final Draft 8 application icon;
  2. Choose Show Package Contents;
  3. Go to Contents > Mac OS > Data > Templates (FD9) or Stationery (FD8 / 7);
  4. Drag the template(s) into the Scripts folder (do not move the folder containing the templates into the Scripts folder, just the templates themselves).

NOTE: These instructions do not apply to the Mac App Store version of Final Draft.

Move the new template(s) into the Scripts folder and close all the windows. When you open Final Draft and go to

  • File > New from Template > Scripts (FD10 / 9)
  • File > New from Stationery > Scripts (FD8)

you will see the new templates on the menu.

NOTE: Templates created for FD10 / 9 will not work in FD8.
