FD5 and FD6 files will open directly in FD7.
FD7 files will open directly in FD5 and FD6, but any text you've written in the script's Summary Cards will be inaccessible.
FD4 files will open directly in FD7 but they must be resaved with a new name (without the word Converted in it) to create a separate FD7 file.
Note: If you have FD5 or older and you're a taking Mac file to a Windows machine, add a .fdr extension to the end of the filename (i.e. Casablanca.fdr) before transferring it.
NOTE: Live support for Final Draft 7 has been discontinued. You will still be able to install, activate and use FD7 on appropriate computers but email, chat and telephone support is no longer available. Live activation assistance for FD7 is still available via phone (818-789-6281) and email and chat (links on the left side of this page).
All support for Final Draft 6 / 5 has been discontinued.
